Neil deGrasse Tyson was born October 5th, 1958 in
the manhattan borough of New York City. He was raised in the Bronx. He is the
middle child of three born to Cyril and Sunchita Tyson. He was educated in the
Bronx, before moving to Harvard and Columbia universities to pursue a degree in
astrophysics. He graduated with a doctorate in Astrophysics in 1991. While
working on his doctorate thesis, he was part of the group that helped establish
Type 1a Supernovae as the standard candle measurement for distance with
celestial objects. He is, in my opinion, the closest thing that astrophysics
and science in general has to a rock star. He is literate, sharply-dressed,
smart, and in a position where he can help scientists achieve the recognition
and funding they deserve. I honestly believe that if the American people were
to elect Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye to the presidency, we could usher in
a new age of innovation, and even the sky wouldn’t be the limit.
